    O my goodness I love the writing and the storytelling. Although I'm not in college, there is something beautiful about being able to capture the young love of Kiki and Kai.

    Love is real and this book proved that. This story was so thoughtfully developed and the characters brimming with life. It had me giggling and twirling my hair at work. This is definitely a new all time favorite.

    I thoroughly enjoyed this and couldn't put it down till I got to the end. For a debut, Bolu Babalola outdid herself and I'm now very curious about subsequent books. Weruche Opia read it beautifully (save for the murder of some Yoruba words) and I believed every word.

    It's not my typical genre so I'm really happy that it turned out to be a really beautiful albeit slightly corny read/listen.

    This was sooo great! What a gem. I wish there was more.. I'm not ready to leave all these wonderful deep spicy heart of gold characters...

    The writing is ace. Such beautiful play of language, like dancing.

    The narration - exceptional. So very well done. I am grateful for the wild sweet and bold ride of this book!

    I will still write a comprehensive review of this book, but till then, let's say a few things.
    First of all, I love the language the author employs in the book. I listened to the audiobook version, and I really enjoyed Weruche's tone and voice when she says things like 'you're moving mad.'

    This is a beautiful Romcom, a fake dating trope, but it's beautiful regardless. I love how the author describes love, and how she paints it to be a cute image. And I love the fact that Kiki gets to experience true love for once, even if it started as a fake dating.

    Really gave Dear White People vibes in the beginning in a good way. Love Keke and Kai's relationship progression where even though the relationship was fake everything about it was honest from the beginning. Also felt that the story was truly authentic in its setting and characters. Just a lovely read.

    I enjoyed the rich writing that guided us through the intricacies of intimate friendships. I loved how the audio was voiced and the descriptive writing made the images so vivid in my mind. I hated when the book came to an end.

    I must say the writing has my both reflecting, laughing, and full on joy. I loved all the characters and their growth. It is impressive to capture black romance in a light that both reflect culture and interest in the western media. A melting pot of ideas an mindset. Th coming together of women through honesty and vulnerability. What a read!

    OH WOW‼️ “Honey and Spice” is a well written novel by Bolu Babalola. This was my first book from this author..and a delightful read too‼️ Thereafter, I appreciated (empathize) the social political commentaries/dramas of “chocolate people” navigating campus life; enjoyed the friendship of Kiki and Amina as well as the frenemy-banter between Malakai and Kiki. Yes there where a few cultural obscurities. But nothing offense and or so ambiguous that would interfere with completing this novel. I applaud the narrator Weruche Opie on a superb performance ??????‼️ I’m looking forward to other projects from both Ms. Babalola and Ms. Opie.
