    I loved the history woven into this story and Hazel's determination to become a doctor/surgeon despite it being looked down upon. Can't wait to read the second book!

    Characters are great, and the story brilliantly narrated. Even though it’s classified as YA, it has a much wider audience. Would recommend

    Sadly this audiobook version was glitching the entire time, with large chunks of the story missing. This made for a very disorienting listening experience.

    The story itself was not bad, but I found the ending quite disappointing.

    That's it?! No board of physicians exam? No revenge on the monstrous surgeon? what of Hazzeles parent's reaction to what she had done with their house?
    This book reminded me of Aurora Leigh's story; thankfully the female character didn't marry her cousin but I can't tell if she completely fulfilled her ambitions.
    the first part of the book was rather slow and then there were parts of the story that needed more details/explanations in the second half.
    Overall it is a fine book but I was tempted to DNF it when I started it... give it some time=)

    So at first the book starts off slow then it picks up about halfway through into the book. I enjoyed Hazel and her passion in wanting to be a surgeon. This book was a historical Gothic tale of a female/male version mash up of Frankenstein with a twist in my opinion with some romance thrown up in the mix.

    First, I don’t know if my app had a problem or if the audiobook was just poorly edited, but some chapters(quite a lot actually) began at the middle of a track, some paragraphs were completely cut out… the audiobook experience was not pleasant at all !

    As for the content of the book, I was expected a bit more, considering all the hype that book got. It was still an entertaining story. I was surprised by the end.
